Dislodged pin coming out of toe

Just a year ago I had bunion surgery and now the pin shifted and there is a bump on top of foot just below toe. Foot doc said it will come out on its own. What can I do to speed up the process? I was told to wear callus pads to protect the area when I have shoes on.
