Hi I had a bout of pharyngitis last week. I did a lot of coughing now I ribs all round are extremely sore, I have hard time sleeping and try very hard not to cough. I also have a hard time eating. I seem to be hungry and I know I am mostly likely dehydrated which I am trying to fix. Drinking a lot of fluids, especially water since it doesn't burn going down. been taking Ibuprofen, even my throat is swollen.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Well, first of all – are you taking any medications, both for the ribs soreness and cough? That seems to me like the first step – stop the coughing so the ribs will get the chance to heal a little. Ibuprofen should help with the pain and it even has some anti-inflammatory properties, but I think that the fact that the infection has spread to the throat might mean that it is caused by bacteria in which case you obviously will need antibiotics. Have you measured your temperature? Keep drinking fluids and try to eat something easy but nutritious, like soup. Gargling with salt water will help with burning sore throat – that I know form my own experience, but if some infection is behind this you will need to see a doctor to get the proper treatment.

Is there any reason why I would be burping and have severe heartburn after falling and landing on my ribs hard? Should I get it checked?
