Which foods should be restricted in diabetes?

I am just trying to get something straight about diabetes here, because I do not have a lot of knowledge. I know there are some foods that need to be avoided by diabetes patients, but which ones? Is it sugar and anything sweet? Or is that not correct? Thank you for replying.
