I have a fear of driving since I have been dianogsed with diabetes, especially after one episode of hyperglycemia; I was so sick I was required to be in the hospital for a week. I am pretty much aware of the days my sugar is high, but I have to drive to get me grandchildren, go to the doctors, grocery...all my friends also live miles away and I want to keep social! How do the rest here manage it? Do you measure it before you go driving and make sure you are ok or take another dose of insulin before sitting in the car?

Hello!  It is good that you are concerned about your blood sugar while behind the wheel of a car.  How high do your sugars get?  You should strive to get your sugars under control before considering driving too far away from home.  Maybe your friends could come visit you until things get regulated?  I think it would be a good idea that you check your blood glucose if you was planning to drive any distance from home.  If it is high, you can take your insulin as prescribed, wait about 30 minutes and check your blood sugar again before getting behind the wheel.
