It is said that diabetes mellitus can lead to organ malfunctions if left untreated and even with treatment. Isn't diabetes caused by some problem in the pancreas, essentially? I am wondering what organs can fail without treatment? In what circumstances do complications occur? If you can explain this, that would be great.

Well, kidney failure or malfunction is a common complication of diabetes, and many patients do need up needing dialysis later on in life. Heart disease is also something that diabetes patients are at risk of. Most of these can be controlled with medication and regular medical monitoring. Hope that helps.
