"new oxycontin". 80 mg OP

I can't swallow whole pills. I was told if I cut THIS pill in half, all the medication is airborne.. Released into the air, and becomes useless. Is this true? I'm wondering if this is why pill seems ineffective. I can cut all other meds, even cancer meds. Is this a myth?
