Infected tooth...could infection just "vanish" by itself????

My husband has/had an infected eye tooth. A few days ago, the pain got intense and his lip and nose swelled up. He couldn't open his mouth to eat and the pain upon touch was severe. I told him to make an appointment with the dentist ASAP. Of course he didn't and when i persisted, he got real cranky....

I have had "swollen taste buds " for about 10 years now. my old ,old doctor told me they would go away. I am 32 years old and i do smoke. they are on the back of my tongue and sometimes my tongue will hurt. is this something to wory about?
