When should I test for pregnancy?

My husband and I decided to start trying to conceive 18 days ago (May 17). The problem is I haven't had a menstrual cycle since March and I'm not sure when I ovulate. How do I know when to test for pregnancy? I'm not very patient but I don't want to waste pregnancy tests by trying too early.

slightly heavy spotting after attempting to get pregnant? is this possible

i'm am due to start my period in around 5 or so days. i tried to get pregnant and am not sure when i ovulate. i have had random headaches, my breasts are sore, and i'm a bloated. should i wait to take an HPT or am i just not pregnant? can someone please help me? %-)
