Okay, it's finally spring, and time for some fluffy chick lit. Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella is the story of Emma Corrigan, a twenty-something marketing assistant who dreams of becoming a success - in anything.
The novel starts out as Emma is making a business trip to Glasgow representing her company, Panther Cola. The trip turns out badly when she sprays a can of the cola on the client. On the plane ride home, Emma, a nervous flyer, panics when the plane hits turbulence. She spends the rest of the flight revealing all of her deep dark secrets to the handsome American stranger in the seat next to her.
Monday morning when Emma comes to work the company is all a dither. It turns out the Jack Harper, the founder of Panther Cola has come to inspect the company. Guess what? Jack Harper is the American stranger to whom Emma has spilled her guts. Emma hopes to lay low and avoid Jack, but of course he goes out of his way to make sure that he spends a lot of time in her company.
Totally predictable, but really very amusing and sweet. Emma is a likeable character, as is her roommate Lissy. The author, Sophie Kinsella wrote the Shopaholic series, which I had been avoiding. But, after this I may pick one up.
