Juvenile idiopathic arthritis-when does it occur?

Hi, I need some help for my kid. He is only ten years old and he has been diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. I just cannot believe that he will have to deal with something like this from now on When does this condition actual occur? Why does it happen at all? Does anyone know?

Shoulder pain
