there has to be a better way!

what i dont understand.......if i take a hit,my throat closes up,i cant even swallow my water...however if someone else takes a hit,then blows their smoke through a paper towel roll,i can get high without my breathing being affected.. is there some way to filter the pot without needing someone else...
