Cough Medicines: Suppressants & Expectorants

Cough suppressants may act centrally on the brain or locally on the respiratory tract to suppress the cough reflex. Cough suppressants include dextromethorphan (DXM), noscapine, ethyl morphine and codeine. Expectorants thin the mucus that blocks the air tubes leading to the lungs. This makes the mucus easier to cough up. The most common expectorant is Guaifenesin.

I have heard that Vick vaporub helps with getting rid of fingernail fungus. I also heard that it is a product made of natural substances so it does not belong to a group of heavy drugs. My brother has these fungus problems so I wonder how effective this drug would be.
