Whats the best way to do hill work?

What's the best way to get hill work in when there are no hills in your area? I've been putting my tread at an incline of 6 and running at a slower pace. New knee cap pain, any idea whats the cause?

What are your thoughts on the two week taper?

I have finished two marathons, and found that a 4 week taper left me a little unfocused come race time. Has anyone played around with different taper lengths? Any hints/suggestions you can give me? Chuck (home of my running blog)
