Why are my long runs so slow?

Question: if I run 200meters in 40.3 sec., 400m in 84 sec, and a comfortable mile is under 8 minutes why are my long runs so slow? I run with a group on long runs and our pace is about 10.30min/mile. Is this right? (long run is always more than 10 miles) Should I try to go faster on the long...

Answered by a doctor

Please, help me. I have problems with my feet. They hurt after the races, especially longer ones. I don’t know what to do. I don’t like the idea of stopping running since I like it very much. My wife suggested that I should try some new running shoes. I don’t know if this can help...

How to unstuck myself from a running rut?

Answered by a doctor

Like all new runners I had to work on slowing down so I could run longer distances. Now however, I find that I have one speed, and one speed only. It's about 10:00/mile. I was thinking of going out and givin' er hell tonight and running really quickly, walking when I needed to, just my 5.5k route...

Training through a race?

I'm going for a small cross country race next weekend (6.7 km). The problem is that it will be in a heavy training week. I'm planning to replace Friday's tempo run with the race (it will be more of a training run than a race). I have a long run scheduled the day after the race...Is it alright to go...

Shin splints on a seasoned runner?

So, I'm getting pains in my shins like shin splints? I haven't greatly increased my mileage any (around 35 MPW now) and I haven't gained a lot of weight (I'm down about 5 lbs). what's up with that?
