What's the point of a skin graft in the burn treatment?

I heard of the cases when people suffered serious burns and their skin was burnt so bad that they needed skin transplantation. The redness and the blisters are what I experienced when I got careless around the grill and in the sun, but what’s the point of a skin graft in the burn treatment?

Is surgery always needed when annular tear is diagnosed? My sister had injury and hurt her low back. She has problems sitting and feels burning sensations in legs. She thinks that she has annular tear and that it is serious damage. Is that true?

I have just experienced a burn injury but luckily it was nothing serious. Still, while in hospital, I have witnessed several cases where people were in the life threatening situations because of the burns. What might happen to them, how come the burns may be so dangerous? Will they be ok?
