my tongue has been white for quite some time

Hi all,So I have noticed my tongue has been white for quite some time. The middle of it is almost completely white, and the front third has white lines that run back to the middle of the tongue. Any ideas what this might be?

Few days ago I was looking to a mirror and find out that I have little white mass on my upper gum. I have taken it off. But it started to appear again. Now I have two spots. I went to see oral surgeon for an advice. He doesn't know what it is. He wants to do a biopsy. Anyone have some experience?
