a fluid retention consistent with a high sodium consumption

I've recently stopped drinking distilled liquors but it has resulted in an increase in my wine consumption. I now seem do be having a fluid retention consistent with a high sodium consumption. Is this a direct cause and effect. My edema is now noticeable.
