after having covid I was put on carvedilol 12.5 2X a day for about one month. And Prozac for 9 days. When all the tests were done they didn't find any heart issues so the doctor had me stop everything cold turkey. Its been almost 4 weeks since stopping both. after stopping both, I am having adrenal surges that wake me up about 3 every morning. Is this withdrawals from the meds?

Hello.
Carvedilol is a beta-blocker, which means it blocks the action of certain chemicals in your body that affect the heart and blood vessels. When stopping a beta-blocker, there can be a potential for "rebound" effects. Rebound hypertension (increased blood pressure) can sometimes occur when discontinuing a beta-blocker, but this typically would be managed or anticipated by a healthcare provider.
On the other hand, Prozac is an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) used for the treatment of depression, OCD, panic disorder, and other conditions. Discontinuation symptoms can occur with SSRIs if they are stopped abruptly. Typical symptoms may include flu-like symptoms, insomnia, nausea, imbalance, sensory disturbances, and hyperarousal. However, fluoxetine has a longer half-life compared to other SSRIs, which means it stays in the body longer and generally has a lower risk of causing discontinuation symptoms.
The "adrenal surges" you mention might not be a classic described symptom of discontinuation from either of these drugs. However, the body's response to stopping medications can be complex and might not always fit textbook descriptions. Other factors, including the physical and emotional stress of illness, other medications, or underlying conditions, could contribute to the symptoms you're experiencing.
It's crucial to communicate with your healthcare provider about any symptoms you're experiencing, especially after changes in medication. They can provide insights specific to your situation, including whether the symptoms might be related to medication discontinuation or other potential causes.
