How many repeats for 1/4 mi. intervals?

I've been doing 1/2 mi. x 6 for the past couple of months and I thought I'd give it a go and do some 1/4 mi. repeats. How many should I shoot for and what type of recovery? Is 6 a good number or should I be doing more? I'm mostly training for 5Ks and short distance duathlons.

Interval work outs are the best

I sometimes just make them up on paper and love to see how they turn out when I run them.

What time should I be aiming for this weekend?

I'm racing a 10k this coming Sunday and I'm still debating as to what sort of time I should be aiming for. Although I've seen improvements through my recent workouts, I don't know whether the goal times predicted would be too ambitious...In other words I'm still not convinced that I've improved that...

Building up to a 20 mile run.

I think I'm at a point where I'd like to go ahead and do a 20 mile run. The farthest run I've ever done so far was 18 miles and that was almost a year ago. It wiped me out but I was pretty new to running longer distances back then. I just ran 16.4 on Saturday and I've been running 12 to 14 milers...

Music on the run, yes or no?

Here’s a poll question: music on the run, yes or no? And give arguments for either preference. I like to listen to some music while I’m running, even when I’m not alone, because you can’t talk during running. At least I can’t because I follow the correct breathing...

Anyone experienced this? I haven't really wanted to run or do squat! I think I may need to enter another marathon to keep my but in gear. Since the marathon I have trained a handful of times and my weight has gone up 7lbs........Any ideas on how to get out of a rut?

10 minute runs to maintain conditioning?

In Jeff Galloway's latest article in the Nov. issue of Runner's World, he makes the claim that its ok to miss a run to take a break and that one only needs to do a 10-minute run to maintain their aerobic conditioning. I can't imagine that this is true. Your thoughts?

Setback during Long Distance Run - Should I be worried?

I'm in training for the Atlanta Half-Marathon on Thanksgiving morning. I'm up to ~ 25 mpw over the last 6 weeks (or so). I had to cut short last Sunday morning's 10 mile long distance run at the 5 mile mark due to some right knee pain around my outer kneecap. I tried to run through it for a...

pre-training for marathon training

Answered by a doctor

Some of you know I've been toying with doing a half or full sometime in the near future. I had been thinking more along the lines of a half. But now, I'm leaning towards a full. There is one in my hometown in April and our track club has weekly training runs and support and I think it would be a...
