Orthopedist told me to never, ever do squats or lunges

Orthopedist here in Ecuador (educated in Brazil I think) tells me to never, ever do squats or lunges. Full-flexion with weight adds 7-10 times the weight to your knees. I started doing squats and lunges 4 months ago. Any reason I should stop and be doing something else? thanks

Gripping Handles on Weight Machines and/or Dumb Bells

I've been having trouble keeping a grip on the handles on the weight machines (lat pull, chest press, overhead press, arm curls, tricep extension, seated row). The handles are black rubber covered steel. In the absence of chalk, what should I use?

How good are massages?

When I finish the race I usually go home, take a shower, have a bite and lie down to rest. It has worked fine for me all these years. are you more sore the 1st day after pumping iron or the 2nd day?

I started weight training about a year ago, when I got a cheapo weight & bench set (barbell only). I used to get a little sore the next day after working out. Recently, I upgraded my weights to a cast iron plate barbell and dumbbell set. I am now able to do much better training with the dumbbells....
