How possible is it that a friend of mine has ddr?

How likely is it that an adult over 40 would have ddr? Does it effect memory, specch and spelling? Is there a permanent cure? I lady I know in Missouri is thought to have DDR. Although why her family waited until now to send her to a home for such people in Calfiornia, is beyond me. John
