My father has had a blood clot, and went to hospital for it. He has now been put on a drug called warfarin. That sounds terribly aggressive to me, and I have heard that this is a drug that can have heavy side effects, and dangerous side effects at that! Under what circumstances does this happen? Are there drugs that are less aggressive?

When taken correctly according to the prescribed dosage, then it is unlikely that warfarin will cause many side effects. In fact, warfarin can be a huge life saver, quite literally. It is mostly due to overdoses that heavy bleeding occurs, so the dosage is something that should be watched very carefully.
