Who is the most influential American runner in your opinion? In my opinion that’s Jesse Owens. I know that he died almost 30 years ago, but he’s a legend who established running as one of the most attractive sports. His breakthrough achievements are still respected, no matter how fast these new generations of runners are. He’s the first athlete that was my role model.

Jesse Owens truly is a legend, but my favorite is Carl Lewis. I remember watching his races as a kid. His speed was breathtaking for that time. I think that his achievement as an Olympic athlete made a great impact on the following generations since he won 10 medals. He was even voted for the “Sportsman of the Century”. I completely agree with that and I think that he’s the right choice for this flattering role. Of course, I don’t want to diminish accomplishments of numerous athletes that have come after Carl Lewis such as, Maurice Greene, Michael Johnson or Justin Gatlin, but Carl Lewis is a top notch athlete.
