What should my pacing be like while running a half?

Answered by a doctor

I know I should have posted this earlier considering that my half's tomorrow. I've been working on coming up with decent splits to run for the race. The ideal situation of course is to negative split it....I plan to run it between 1:24-1:26 though 1:25-1:26 seems more realistic now. Here's what I...

Training to get slower?!?

So my life has leveled out a lot and I'm back to a regular running schedule. Problem is that I'm running at noon in the heat and humidity. My pace has dropped off between 45 and 50 seconds / mile since the summer started. So, my question is, am I training myself to get slower because I'm running...

Differences in day and night running pace

Answered by a doctor

Does anyone else find that they have a substantial pace difference between running early AM and noon/evening times? I've been running in the early AM (5:30) during the summer but since it has cooled off a little, I've been running at lunchtime and sometimes in the evening. The other morning I...

Common Manufacturing Phrases and their Translations joke

Common Manufacturing Phrases and their Translations I promise to bring this right back. = You'll never see it again. That's a "gray" area, I'll get right back to you on it. = I have no freaking idea what to do about this. It will work just fine the way it is. = It's a piece of junk....

When you are the best do you hang around or should you move to greater things?

There's a gal that runs in just about every race I run in. She's awesome. She ran a 10k this weekend in 37 minutes. Heck she usually beats the men as well. The races in our area are very small, if you get 100 people that's a crowd. I've been to most of these races for the past 3 years and she's won...

Goal pace is too fast?

OK, so according to numerous running calculators out there on the web, I punched in my 5K time, and my goal pace for the half should be 1:40.00. I think this is too fast. Help!

My opinion on training based on heart rate

Answered by a doctor

More out of curiosity than anything else, I got a heartrate monitor. I will still use it in the future, but just for monitoring purposes and not a trianing tool. There's been much talk about Maffetone and other methods of training, and while I think the method has merit, I think it's a BAD...

What is Resistance Training?

Just wondering exactly what people here do for this, or what it is exactly. Would it be running half k fast then half k slow, or when runnning around the track a few sprints per lap and then the rest at a jog? Suggestions and tips greatly appreciated

How much did i lose performance wise after being sick for 5 days?

From last (a week ago) Saturday morning, I went five days without running, due to being sick. I ran easy on Thursday afternoon for 4 miles, off Friday, easy 4 again Saturday evening, and then bombed my Sunday long run. I attempted to go out for 10+ miles, and ended up walking back after only 3.5...

Have you ever used contrast baths for injuries?

Have you ever used these for an injury? My doctor recommended two tubs of water, one ice cold, the other hot and to put my foot in the ice water for 3 minutes, the heat for 1 minute and repeat 3-4 times, but making sure to begin and end in the ice water. My mom swears by it for her PF. Anyone tried...
