Sedative (Depressant) and Antidepressant Dependence
Sedatives (depressants) are drugs that that suppress the central nervous system, causing the body to slow down and relax, relieving anxiety and producing sleep. The most commonly used/abused are barbiturates (Amytal, Nembutal, Seconal, phenobarbital) and benzodiazepines (Ativan, Halcion, Librium, Valium, Xanax, Rohypnol) but also chloral hydrate, glutethimide (Doriden), methaqualone and meprobamate. Talk about sedative dependence on this forum.
