Hi. I'm 21 and I was diagnosed with GAD in January 2007. Since then I have been taking Lexapro. My perscripton ran out last week, and I don't have a doctors appointment until this Friday. Besides the general ill-feeling that goes along with Anxiety, i have been noticing brief "spells" throughout the day when I feel numbness and tingling around my mouth and lips. This usually only lasts for several seconds. After researching it on WebMD symptom checker, i found that this can be another symptom of GAD. I was wondering if this could just be from the sudden withdrawal that I've had over the past week and a half.
I was also wondering if anyone knows of any other anti-anxiey meds that i could talk to my doctor about. In terms of physical and emotional side effects, I have been through the ringer with Lexapro. I've experienced increased worry, anxiety, crying spells and paranoia, as well as an increase in my blood pressure and heart palpitations since I've started with the Lexapro. (I have also witnessed a decrease in my general sex drive, which my boyfriend and I would enjoy to be solved...)
Thanks! :-D

I took lexapro and the problem it had for me was that it didn't last long enough.. I was going through withdrawal 18 hours after taking it! I have been on Zoloft and Prozac.. Zoloft actually worked really well with both depression and anxiety and it worked fast for me. Prozac is also a good drug. It has a much easier withdrawal. The problem for me was it helped my anxiety but made my depression worse, so I had to add another medication on.
You can always ask your doctor (mine does this... maybe he could).. for an emergency one-time prescription fill (even if you have to pay him a little extra). Tell him you can't really wait until your meeting and that you are feeling some of the withdrawal effects already. He should understand.
Good luck! And most SSRI's and antidepressants screw up your sex drive... but ask your boyfriend... would he rather have you have a worse sex drive? Or constant anxiety? Talk to your doctor. If another med doesn't work as well as lexapro, you can always go back. Good luck!
