No problems with Lexapro going on or coming off. Worked great for depression with little or no side effects and when I stopped experienced very little negative symtoms. Thought it was decent.

I have been on Lexapro for 2yrs now. I was up to 30mg. I tried tapering down a couple different times, but I would find myself sad, depressed and wanting to cry very easily. I have now tried again (a 3rd time), but added Vitamin D (1,000 IU) gel caps to my diet as well, and I have not had any of the emotional problems like before. I went from 30mg, to 25mg, to 20mg and now I have been on 15mg for about a month now and feel (emotionaly) the same as I did at 30mg. I have to assume it is the Vitamin D, since that is the only change I have made this time. I am not a Dr, so I would suggest anyone wanting to taper off, talk to your Dr, but I know for a fact that it has helped me. I hope I can help someone else with this info.

Plus, Vitamin D has many other benefits and is something the body needs anyway. I have read that as many as 50% of Americans are deficient in Vit D, which that alone could be a source of depression/or intensify depression in some people. I hope I can help someone else with this info.

Good for you buddy! You got out lucky.. but don't assume that your experience is the norm, obviously a lot of people are having a lot of problems with it. Perhaps you should try and be a little but more understanding of other people and less judgemental??

I don't know any doctors that are paid for writing prescriptions. I am a nurse, and I am married to a doctor. None of the doctors i have ever worked for got paid by anyone to write prescriptions, and neither does my husband.

I, too, have been trying to withdraw from Lexapro for over a year. Everytime I get down to 1/4 of a 10 mg tablet, the brain shocks and dizziness starts. It is so severe, it affects my concentration at work. It is a very depressing and stressful thing. I am now taking 1/4 of a 10mg tablet every other day. by the 2nd half of the 2nd day, the brain shocks start up again. That little 1/4 of a tablet makes them go away. So now, I just need to stop it altogether. The last time i tried this, the symptoms (brain shocks and lack of concentration) went on for weeks (2 weeks) and I end up giving in and taking the med again.
I am very angry with my MD for not telling me about this issue. She does not believe me when I tell her that I am experiencing these things. I have been to several MDs and have yet to find one that believes this happens. I believe this is MALPRACTICE pure and simple. Why do MDs listen to drug reps and not to their patients? The pharmacists cannot even tell you about these side effects.
I am hoping one day soon to be drug free. I will never ever trust an MD again. This may eventually cause my death but at least I will be free of medications that are harmful.

I stopped taking Lexapro 10mg completely a little over a week ago, after an accelerated weaning process. This was due to the fact that I no longer have health insurance, and the Lexapro is way too expensive to pay in full. So far it hasn't been so bad. The only symptoms I have so far are VERY weird dreams and a pulse-like feeling in my face. Is it possible for the symptoms to get worse over time? I feel like I'm going to be fine as long as it doesn't get worse.

Ok I am now 9 days with no lexapro.Today I feel pretty good.I still have slight dizziness and a headache.Last night I took a neck wrap that you put in the microwave and laid in bed with it on the back of my neck. That really seemed to help alot.It relaxed me.I woke up at about 2 a.m. and had a slight panic attack so I took an ativan to help me get back to sleep. When I got up this morning I took tylenol right away for my headache. So far headache is not really there and it also seemed to help with my funny feeling in my head.I have also noticed that my appitite has decreased which is good cause I quit this s**t cause of the weght gain.Im just wondering how long I will feel like this?I havent had any of the brain zaps so im wondering when these will start.Like I said I have been off now for 9 days. And I did quit cold turkey. So if anyone out there could give me a time line as to when they started their symptoms that would be great.Thanks.

I to have been having almost every symptom listed for lexapro withdrawal. I missed a couple of doese and decided maybe I could just quit taking it altogether since I seem to be doing better these days, boy was I wrong. After about 4-5 days I started experiencing those "brain zaps" so I spoke with my doctor about coming off and he told me to take a half of the 10 mg dose for three days then a quarter for 3 days and I should be good. Well- I'm not!! I am still experiencing the terrible brain zaps, body aches, lack of concentration, insomnia at night and sleepiness of course during the day, stomach pains etc. After about three days or so of this, I give in and take another quarter dose just to get me through the day. The "brain zaps" do give me the effect of being crazy. How can anyone ever completey come off of lexapro and be "normal" again. I'm almost ready to say screw it and just go completely back on it full dose again. It's probably some sort of conspiracy to get people to stay on the meds to make more money.

I started weening off lexapro about 3 weeks ago and had my last dose a little more than one week ago. On Sunday (prob about 6 days after i stopped taking it all together) I started to feel very dizzy. Monday the dizziness continued and naseau was added to the mixture. By Tuesday I was dizzy, nauseaus having bad dreams, going through hot & cold spells, blurred vision, moody, rude and unstable on my feet. I told my roommate to "go to hell" for no reason whatsoever. Today is Thursday and I just figured out that I was going through SSRI Discontinuation Syndrome. I'm glad to know that I haven't lost my mind and that there is actually a reason for this (I went and had blood drawn) because I was so worried.
I can only hope that it goes away soon because I am barely making it through the work day and am unable to do anything other than work. Reading all of the posts has helped me tremendously to know that I'm not the only person going through this. Lexapro was a good drug for me and helped with my anxiety so hopefully this won't last too long and change my mind...

I've been taking Lexapro for 4+ years and recently increased dosage from 10mg to 20mg, before realizing the lathargy and lack of motivation I had for a year was caused by the Lexapro. My Dr. was the one who increased my dosage which made the symptoms worse. Most doctors have NO clue and really don't care to learn. You need to do your own research. I weaned off Lexapro quickly, have been off for 3 weeks now. No brain zaps, dizziness, or headache, but have noticed over the past week I am very moody and overly sensitive at certain times. If mood swings get bad, I take a 5 mg. and that seems to help. I've been taking hign doses of Omega 3 and other brain enhancing suppliments and this has really seemed to help! I really think this is why I don't have the brain zaps or headaches.

ive been on lexapro for year now and have not had any side effects lexapro has been great for me with the treatment of my depression i think it just depends on the individual. i was weaned of it a couple months ago to try a new medication effexor i had the brain zaps which felt so wierd but other then that the withdrawal symptoms weren't to bad but once i was on effexor i had the worst side effects and quickly went back to lexapro which ive been back on for a few months now and have had no side effects what so ever im very comfortable taking lexapro and will continue taking it until im feeling safe of my depression returning i think you just need to find the right medication and dosage for you id suggest seeing a psychiatrist to, there the ones that specialize in medication and do background testing on you in order to find the right medications and dosages for you if you worried about the doctors prescription ask for a referral to a psychiatrist

I have been on Celexa for a couple of years and recently switched to Wellbutrin. I didn't realize that I would have withdrawal but I did. In fact it got so bad with the brain zaps and dizzyness that I had to go back on. I tapered down for a couple of weeks and went off again. That was 3 weeks ago. It took 3-4 days for the symptoms to start back and they have been around for 10 days now. I havent been able to find success stories on the internet, only people looking for answers. I am thinking that may be a good thing. People either feel good again and don't come to these sites anymore or they go back on the meds. I refuse to give up this time so I promise to let everyone know how long this c**p lasts. I have been taking lecithin supplements for the last two days because i read that it helps your brain recover from the withdrawal. I will keep updating this. Oh yea, the symptoms have gotten worse the last three days so I hope its about to go away. I am not going to take that poison again.

I have been titrating off of lexapro for about a year now (I moved down to 5mg a day at my own leisure about a year ago when I felt that I could deal with my symptoms from PTSD). At that time I did not experience any serious side effects except some depression and sadness for a couple of week, after which my body and mind really adjusted. Sometimes I would forget to take my medicine all together and would experience more sadness, but no brain shocks. Then I got pregnant and decided to try and remove lexapro from my system all together before beginning to breast feed (it's not one of the "allowed" drugs during breast feeding). This was when I began to experience brain shocks. The dizziness was actually so bad that I couldn't stand up straight, drive or focus to complete a single task. Although I also had a hard time getting my OB doc to believe me, my midwife and I worked out a titration plan that was much more gradual (5mg every other day for a month, then every 2 or 3 days for half a month, then none at all). I have found that I might get one or two zaps in a day from a much more gradual let-down instead of constant dizziness. If you are interested in getting off lexapro, I really recommend a very gradual draw-down instead of cold-turkey and it always helps to have someone supporting you and understanding what you are going through. It has been helpful to me to know that I am not crazy too!

I was on Lexapro for a little more than a month. I got on it for panic attacks and it didnt help with that at all. Also it made me very depressed and more anxious than when i got on. I tapered off it by going from 10mg to 5mg for three days and then just stopping. I was suprised how easy it was, I felt a little wierd but overall much better than i had expected. But since getting off I have been really sad and dont know why. I just have a feeling of sadness in my stomach that I have never had before. Ive been off the medicince for almost 3 weeks. How long can withdrawals last??
