I am currently 9 weeks pregnant and quit taking lexapro last week. I had weaned down from 20mg to 10mg to 5mg and then stopped cold turkey. I feel awful. I have these brain zaps, i feel dizzy and I have all my queesy, tired pregnancy symptoms. How long is this going to last? Has anyone else been pregnant and weaned off of lexapro?

Hi there, if you are currently pregnant and trying to quit Lexapro you are really putting a hard strain on your body! I hope that you will reconsider quitting cold turkey because your body is suffering through withdrawal symptoms and it's going to be very hard on you. If you could, please consult with your doctor about it because the symptoms can last (not as strongly) up to three months, so bear that in mind. Keep me posted on how you're doing okay?

You should definately check w/ your doctor. He/She may prefer you to take it one step farther and take 2.5mg every day for a little while, like a week... then do every other day... then stop. Unlike some other drugs it's safe to break the Lexapro pills down in smaller parts. I'm not pregnant, but have looked up the good/bad of lexapro for the baby should I decide to become pregnant. Been on lexapro for several years. I recently went cold turkey off 5mg. You're withdrawal symptoms are normal. I'm on day 5. Withdrawal symptoms were noticable on day 3. First I was "floating head" feeling and twitching. Next day crying. Today dizzy. I want to know for sure if I really need this drug before having a baby.

Make sure you speak w/ your doctor!!! Also, gather around a support system to help you out. Make sure you're eating right and getting sleep. Ask for help if you need it. Keeping things in a routine will help w/ all the annoyances of the withdrawal.

Good luck girl!

He Lexaprogal, thanks for posting on your experiences. Can you explain to me a little better as to what your experiences are as you get off the drug? I think that your experiences would be invaluable and the input would be helpful! Thanks if you can!

@ healthnfitnessguy: I agree. I think I may post a whole new thread on this in the Antidepressants (this) section. I'd like to be as detailed as possible. I see all the "bad" experiences w/ lexapro withdrawal, but never the "good" or "short lived" experiences. I'm on the side of the good experience of getting on, using and weening off of lexapro. I will post a message here once I do and let you know the new thread title. It would be nice to hear from those w/ good experiences! There are a lot of us out there.

FYI- I've been cold turkey for a week and am done with what I would consider "withdrawals".
