Hello Ladies, I've been taking Diane 35 since 1990. It was prescribed for my ance. It really improved my skin. I have only ever had a break from taking it twice and that was to have my two children. I find it suits me as it....1. Is my only form of contraception and 2. Stops my skin from breaking out and becoming oily. I have only good things to say about this pill and I wish I could continue to take it but I am now worried about the TGA recent findings on the Diane and I will now consult my GP about if I should cease taking it. Such a shame as it had some really good benefits for me.

to 12346565- thank you for the explanation and the suggestion! Hope it will work, cause my husband doesn't want to have another baby yet, so we really need to be very careful. As a wife, I don't want him to feel upset whenever he needs it. God bless.

Hi All,

I need your help. Ive been taking diane35 for my acne for 2-3 months now. Sometimes i forget to take the pill so Id take the missed pill and the next pill at once or within the same hour. It's been a week since im supposed to get my period. Ive experienced spotting at a random day while i was still taking the pill.

Could that be the reason why I'm delayed? My boyfriend and I never had intercourse..though he dry-humped me once.

Hope you can advise.

Thanks!

hi everyone, i'm a new user of diane 35,ive been using it for 5 days now because it was recommended by my ob gyne to shrink the focus, 1.7 cm and 1.6 cm on both of my ovaries, i also have endometriosis. in my condition, she advised me that the best solution is for me to get pregnant as soon as possible. but right now my boyfriend is working abroad and will finish his contract after 6 months. i feel helpless when i heard that, i never used any pill in my life so im kinda skeptical but still tried diane 35 if it can help me with my condition.

i told my mom about it and she's worried and asked me to stop using the pill because it might cause cancer in the future. she told me to use mx3 mangosteen capsule instead as she has friends who  proved that this food supplement really works and its natural.i wanted to try it out so i decided that after finishing the 21 tablets of diane 35 i wont use it anymore to avoid any side effects.

by the way  i have no problem with acne or greasy hair so im afraid that the effects on me may be the opposite.

I tried Diane 35 on the pharmacist's recommendation that it gives better complexion.

during the 1st month: extreme painful sensitivity in nipples,

2nd month, discomfort and tenderness in the breasts,

end of 3rd month (now) , itchiness and tenderness especially in the left breast, extreme discomfort and tugging pain in the night affecting sleep in the left underarm. this is the 6th day and i can still feel tuggin pain under my armpit next to breast and itchy nipples. I am extremely worried if any cyst has formed because it sure felt like a bunch of grapes under the armpit now.

Just means the pill is not for you. I had bad effects to me as well, like allergies and rashes on my face. I stopped it and took my previous pill. Now Im fine. Just change your brand.

holistic evidence-based treatment protocol for high androgens / PCOS:

STEP 1: lifestyle reset consisting of targeted nutrition + exercise for a period of 12 - 24 weeks helps women with excess androgens
- the most effective strategy for reducing the levels of androgens in the blood is losing weight by eating a low-glycemic-index + high-fiber diet, decreasing stress + practicing yoga

1. lose weight + exercise
- weight loss reduces insulin resistance + excess androgens
- study: one program of a brisk walk 20 minutes per day resulted in a 7% weight loss
- even in adolescent girls with PCOS, weight loss corrects irregular periods, normalizes androgens + improves cardiovascular risk factors

*2. targeted nutrition: low-glycemic-index diet
- the glycemic index (GI) is a measure of how much the carbohydrates in a food raise your blood sugar
- a low GI is less than 55 (out of 100)
- example: a baguette has a glycemic index of 95; a grapefruit has a glycemic index of 25
- eating a low-GI food plan reduces androgens by up to 20%
- in one study, volunteers fed a low-glycemic diet (consisting of 25% protein, 30% fat, 45% carbohydrate) had lower levels of insulin-like growth hormone (IGF-1) after 7 days
- IGF-1 is known to affect 3 important aspects of acne: skin cell growth, skin-cell production of androgens + oil production rate
- meal plan example: breakfast of eggs with chopped spinach or kale; lunch of lean protein with a large serving (6 ounces) of steamed vegetables and a small serving (2 ounces) of whole grains (such as brown or black rice); dinner similar to lunch with the addition of a large salad (8 ounces) with dressing (2 tablespoons)

3. fiber
- for women with PCOS, a low-GI, high-fiber diet is ideal
- recommended 35 to 45 grams of fiber per day
- unless you have sufficient fiber to remove it, most testosterone is secreted into bile and then reabsorbed in the gut + used again
- fiber increases excretion of testosterone in the stool
- foods that contain fiber include fresh fruits + vegetables, certain whole grains + beans

*4. eat foods containing zinc
- zinc plays an important role in sexual development, menstruation + ovulation
- *zinc deficiency is associated with higher androgens + acne
- if you have acne, eat foods with zinc, such as green beans, sesame seeds + pumpkin seeds
- it's better to get zinc from food sources, since cases of zinc toxicity have been found among people who supplement to excess

5. avoid dairy
- milk, cheese + eggs have been shown to increase matrix metalloproteinase (MMK) which then drums up inflammation, which leads to higher androgens + acne

6. eat more protein
- recommended 0.75 to 1 gram of lean protein per pound of lean body mass
- example: a 125-pound woman with 20% body fat (or 25 pounds of fat) has a lean body mass of 100 pounds + needs to eat 75 grams of protein per day if she is relatively sedentary; 100 grams of protein per day if she exercises intensively
- recreational exercisers should eat 80 to 90 grams of protein per day
- try tempeh as a vegan protein source

*7. omit sugar
- sugar is a big factor in excess androgens
- significant levels of sugar increase serum insulin and IGF-1, both of which raise androgens + cause excess-androgen symptoms
- avoid the sweet stuff!

8. get your oil changed
- omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (e.g., fish oil) are the most proven supplement on the market for improving health
- we evolved as human beings with a good balance between omega-3 and omega-6
- our modern diet has led us to eat too many omega-6s found in processed food, corn and safflower oils + farm-raised fish
- not all omega-6s are bad, but they tend to cause more inflammation in the body, whereas omega-3s are anti-inflammatory
- women with too much omega-6 compared with omega-3 have higher circulating androgens
- women with more omega-3s in their blood have lower androgens in the blood, a better cholesterol profile, and as a result, less risk of cardiovascular disease, one of the risks of excess androgens

*9. yoga
- yoga has been shown to be more effective than other forms of exercise at improving insulin resistance in PCOS
- yoga has been shown to rebalance the wayward hormones of PCOS

10. chromium
- chromium is a mineral that acts as an insulin sensitizer, which means that it helps to reverse insulin resistance and lowers both serum insulin + glucose levels when they are high
- those with type 2 diabetes (i.e. the type that results from insulin resistance) have lower blood chromium levels than non-diabetics
- chromium levels decline with age
- chromium is a safe supplement to take + worth trying if you are insulin resistant
- recommended dose of 200 to 1,000 mcg per day of chromium picolinate

11. inositol
- inositol is a naturally occurring B-complex vitamin known to improve insulin sensitivity
- two inositol supplements you can get at the drugstore or health food store show promise in correcting PCOS: D-chiroinositol (DCI) and myo-inositol (MI)
- women with PCOS appear to be deficient in DCI
- new evidence supports that overweight women with PCOS be given the combination of DCI + MI first, prior to prescription therapy
- the new england journal of medicine reported that in women with PCOS, DCI cut free testosterone by more than half + lowered blood pressure and triglycerides in 8 weeks or less
- DCI also works in lean women with PCOS
- recommended dose of 600 mg twice per day of DCI (but you can also find DCI in carob, buckwheat, and grapefruit) + myo-inositol at a dose of 2 grams once or twice per day

12. vitamin D
- vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that is present in eggs + fish
- recommended dose of 2,000 IU per day
- vitamin D deficiency is emerging as a factor in the metabolic disturbance of PCOS
- 44% of women with PCOS are vitamin D deficient, compared with 11% of controls

women with metabolic syndrome + insulin resistance have a higher tone to their sympathetic nervous system i.e. the coveted balance between the sympathetic nervous system, activated by stress into fight or flight, dominates over the parasympathetic nervous system also known as rest and digest

acupuncture
- acupuncture induced regular ovulation in 1/3rd of women with PCOS

minimize exposure to BPA
- BPA is a plastic found in thermal print receipt paper, the plastic lining of most canned food + flame retardants
- women with PCOS have higher levels of BPA and the amount correlates with both androgen level + insulin resistance

STEP 2: herbal therapies
cinnamon
- one cochrane review of 4 trials assessing chinese herbal supplements in sub fertile women with PCOS found increased pregnancy rates when herbs such as cinnamon were added to clomiphene, a medication that may induce ovulation in infertile women
- cinnamon is a natural insulin-sensitizer (so it acts like metformin, in a natural way) stimulating glucose uptake by fat cells, which lowers both glucose + insulin levels
- in a study of people with diabetes, cinnamon reduced fasting glucose and cholesterol
- cinnamon lowers blood pressure (which is often elevated in women with PCOS + metabolic syndrome)
- cinnamon increases lean body mass
- the most effective dose is ½ teaspoon of cinnamon per day

saw palmetto
- known to reduce conversion of testosterone to the more potent DHT + to block androgen receptors i.e. it acts as an anti-androgen
- if you have high androgens, particularly FAGA, you may want to try saw palmetto in a capsule at a low dose of 160 mg/day

tian gui
- in traditional chinese medicine (TCM), PCOS doesn't fit neatly into a single category
- tian gui capsule is a composite of various herbs proven more effective than metformin (though less effective than a birth control pill) at lowering androgens
