I'm trying to determine whether I should go into the doctor's office, since I've never experienced this variety of pain on my period before. Severe cramping, yes (it's one of two main reasons I'm taking bc), but not sharp pain in that location. It feels like I scraped myself there.

The closest to an answer I've come from searching on the web is that it may be vaginitis, caused either directly by a sudden decrease in estrogen (I just stopped taking combination estrogen/progesterone hormone pills) or by a yeast infection similarly caused by the sudden change in hormones.

Are there any alternate theories or confirmations, and should I get a doctor's appointment?

Update: There's a sharp, stabbing pain when I stand up and sit back down.

If you haven't felt this before, you should probably go see a doctor.
But try to see if you fall into the symptoms of a yeast infection. It could happen at any time in a woman's cycle. If you feel burning and itching and you are pretty sure it could be, i recommend Monistat. Uncomfortable at first, could be painful when it comes to the burning but it fixes the problem!

just make sure that it is what you have before using the product.
