Hi everyone.
I HAVE A SUCCESS STORY!!!
I was on Effexor for about 6 years before I finally was able to get off of it. I tried, unsuccessfully, for almost 2 years with HORRIBLE side effects. I did everything my doctor said to do and was on 37.5 mg for about a year and even tried taking the pill every other day for about 9 months before I realized I was not going to be able to cut back more than that without being really sick.
I constantly was checking online to see how anyone got off successfully and found one woman who had used other medication to aid in her withdrawal symptoms. I went to my doctor and she agreed that these were good alternatives and I started on my way.
I took Lorazepam twice a day while I continued to cut back slowly on the Effexor. I also took Meclizine for the days I had excess dizziness up to three times a day. It took me about a month to continue to cut back slowly but I DID IT!! I was dizzy, but not nearly as dizzy as I was without the extra help and a month is nothing in comparison to the two years I had been attempting this on my own.
I stopped taking the effexor all together once I was only taking it every 5 days and eased off the Lorazepam after 10 days of my final pill.
Overall the whole process was fabulous in comparison to what i had been through. I didn't miss a day of work and even went on vacation and felt great.
I recommend these medications to EVERYONE trying to get off Effexor.
GOOD LUCK!!
