I have been sick with a cold for 17 days now. It went from a terrable cough in my throat to a terrable chest cough. I was so sick I forgot to take my zoloft for about four days. so I just decided do stay off of it. For the last four days I feel a little better but when I do anything to exert myself I get dizzy and nautious and I end up right back on the couch for the rest of the night! It was my husband that wondered if I was going through a withdrawel from the Zoloft. I thought it would have happened much sooner, not waited a week to start. So I was real happy to read all these remarks. I was starting to wonder what the hell is wrong with me! I've been on 50 Mgs for at least 7 years due to rough circumstanses in my life really. What I don't like is that I have never been able to get a straight answere as to how long I am supposed to take Zoloft. I'd say at least 3 out of 5 women I know are on antidepressants ! It seems like everyone is being diagnosed Bi-polar or depressed! And the comercials, if Zoloft can cause a baby do be born with problems I have to wonder isn't it doing something to me too? So I've decided just to stay off of them and like (enuff said) said, I will learn to face life on lifes terms and deal with my emotions.better. At least I feel better knowing now that my cold is almost gone and now I'm batteling something else too. I was on the verge of a screaming tantrum! I didn't know weather I had namonia or what!!! Thank you all for the info, and thank you for your honesty enuff said, I agree with you totally. Wish my husband luck !!!!!!!

Hey everyone,
I can relate entirely to what those on this thread are going through. I'm about 5 days off zoloft, cold turkey due to an ultimatum given to me by my psychiatrist to either quit cannabis or lose his good graces as well as any thing he was prescribing to me.
The first couple of days seemed like nothing was different, but ever since the third day I have been experiencing the lightheaded numbing sensations that i've heard others talk about. So far they have not been too disruptive, in many cases they almost seem enjoyable. It does concern me however that the frequency and amplitude of these brief episodes seem to be increasing. I have not experienced any other notifiable side effects yet and hope this is the extent of them. i'm going to try a steady regiment of fish oil high in EPA (around 1,200mg a day, 2 capsules of NatureWay brand) which from what i've heard in other blogs can help in bringing you back to balance,
I would really appreciate those in similar situations could continue to post here so that we can track expected increases of symptoms at benchmarks to be able to organize good methods of self-rehabilitation.
Thus far my mood is stable and good, deep breathing and a reliance on the ideas i've collected to cement my self-identity have been enough to keep me buoyant during times that before would have caused me high levels of anxiety and panic attacks.
-Best of Luck Everyone

Try taking a couple capsules of fish oil a day, I'm no doctor but I found during the first couple weeks it helped my light headedness. I would suggest Natures Bounty Triple Strength. Just make sure you don't have any allergies related to its ingredients.

wow after reading all these posts have realized im NNOT insane. however. the dizziness and nunbness and vertigo ect. are rampant yeah it comes and goes every hour or so.(note sarcasm here!) i was 100mg daily for 5 plus yrs. no access to Dr no one will prescribe to me. and its not a 'fun' drug so cant get on regular recreational drug lines. my head is buzzing. I call this experience the "Zoomies" like a numbing shocking tingle from head to toe and back. i CANT take months of this. and just in the last 36 hrs, have developed cold symptoms, sneezing, snotty, chest conjestion. ive always been achy joints and such, but can it all be the (lack) of zoloft. i dont blame the drug companies as they told us to WEAN off. . just hate the ezpense and PAIN IN THA ASS of getting rescribed just to wean off. hopefully. i just want this shizznit to STOP

I was on Zoloft 25 mg per day for about a year, we added Wellbutrin to give me an lift bc the Zoloft left me lathargic. My hair started falling out soon after the Wellbutrin, so I quit that easy enough. Then after about 6 months of being off Wellbutrin my hair was growing back and I increased the Zoloft to 50mg bc I was again so depressed and lathargic. When my hair started falling out again. I have been off the Zoloft for about 6 or 7 weeks the hair is still falling out! I'm so mad! My brush is 1/4 full after one week of cleaning it. I have been hot and cold, increased appetite, mania which got really bad, but I made it through without ending up in the hospital, so I'm confident with staying positive and disregarding irrational thinking I can make it with out these ridiculous meds. I will never take another psych med again either! Ever! I think Zoloft should have a class action law suit put in place too! I'm wondering if it takes months to feel better, if my hair will eventually stop falling out by then as well?

Hello,

I have been on sertraline for 21 months and my doctor has told me that in the spring i need to start coming off them.  This weekend I thought to myself that I am going to do this myself and go cold turkey!  I am worried after reading everyone's side affect symptons but I have made a decision to go ahead and want to do this and will get through it.  I am not looking forward to the mood swings and dizziness.  Whilst I have been on them I have gained about 2 stone and do feel better as I have suffered with depression for a number of years.  I keep thinking is this such a good idea with christmas only nearly here but if I don't do this I'll never know.  I am determined to do this and today is day 1.  Here it goes...................................

I am on my 8th day without it only because I have no insurance. I have horrible headaches, I get angry, mean and start crying because I am so frustrated. I also have had an upset stomach for the last 2 days which I am not sure if it has anything to do with stopping the meds.

Thank goodness I have read something positive about quitting cold turkey. I have done same. Started last Thursday because I was in such a state. Doc told me the Sertraline I was taking was no longer working and gave me a prescription for Trazadone instead. Did not like what I read about them and decided I needed to be free from the fear of drugs and what they were doing to me. I was 12 years ago suicidal and that has haunted me ever since, that was because the drug Seroxate was given to me and I could not help myself. Anyhow, I have Cervical Myelopathy which is a spinal cord disease caused by nerve damage re the operation etc. I have had the terrible shakes for the last 12 months and my myelopathy was blamed. Stopped Sertraline for 2 days and NO SHAKES! am dizzy and disorientated with clanging ears at present, but the shakes were terrible and stopped me doing my artwork. Hope as you said things wont get too worse. I think my husband is worried though, as I am. But if you have ever read the side effects of sertraline you may agree if you are over the worst and getting other unwanted symptoms it is time to stop. Hope to hear from you soon to hear how you got on in the end. Susie

I can usually stomach or deal with any medication, but my Zoloft prescription ran out about a week ago and I feel like I am going to die.  I feel dizzy, lightheaded, moments of disorientation, etc.  I just feel like I want to lie down on the floor all the time and sleep and hope it goes away.  I also feel extremely nauseated.  Like I wish I could throw up just so I would feel better but I can't.  It's just continuous nausea.  This is just god-awful.  I was scared at first bc I had not been informed about the symptoms associated with stopping the drug.  I though I was having some kind of serious medical problem, but it seems everyone on here is experiencing the same thing I am.  When does it stop?

I am in the same situation as you are Tita..

I was on 50 mg of sertraline for a few months and decided the med wasn't for me. I tapered down for three days to 25 mgs, but then decided to stop all together. After three-four days, I started experiencing "brain zaps", dizzyness, poor coordination, and "spaceyness". My PCP reported that being on a low dose (such as 50 mg) would not cause these adverse side effects. However, I am not convinced. After exercising and participating in other activities that release serotonin.. (sex...hah), I felt much better. The lack of dizziness, etc was short lived.. But I know what to do to feel better. Our brains are just a little deprived of serotonin.. It was use to an increased amount for a few months, and then we took it away. Think of other ways to give your brain an extra serotonin boost (sex and exercise.. even some different fruits oranges, spinach, broccoli, corn, beets, parsnips and brussels sprouts

Oh my gosh - so relieved to see that others are lightheaded and dizzy. I've been on Zoloft for 15 years and just went off cold-turkey as well. I use the progesterone creme for the same characteristics when I was younger; sadness, manic, insomnia, and all those are taken care of but hell - the lightheadedness had me worried. Thanks for your revelations.
