What happened to you both??? After tapering, I am one month off of zoloft and onto wellbutrin but i don't think i'll be able to continue doing this. The physical withdrawls were hell on earth but I survived them. It is the emotion - the crying the anger the deperation - that I don't think I will be able to tolerate. Please tell me what your experience was if you have continued down the 'no zoloft' and beginning wellbutrin stage. I was on 150 mg for two years and am now startign wellbutrin, up to 300 mg. affording it is another huge obstacle but I am trying to figure that out.

Hi all, I have been on zoloft for 7 years with the last couple of years taking 250mg. I've struggled with my weight for many years and finally decided that I need to get off anti-depressants as they can cause weight gain. I reduced my dosage for a day then went cold turkey so the withdrawal symptoms are hitting me big time. While researching on the internet I came across a herbal supplement called 5-htp. Apparently it helps the brain increase the levels of Serotonin and it is natural. The only problem is it can be very dangerous to take with anti-depressants, hence why I went cold turkey. Just wondering if anyone else has had success with 5-htp? Also if anyone has found they were able to control their weight better off the zoloft?
Thank you in advance.

I followed the Road Back program while tapering of 75 mg venlafaxine. For head zaps he suggests fish oil , and you can take mega doses, then back off when zaps are relieved.

I was on 50mg of Zoloft for 3.5 years. My life situation has improved significantly and I feel much more happy and comfortable than I once did, so I decided it was the right time to taper on my own. Being a very cautious but determined person, I decided I would cut my dose in half and patiently wait as long as it took to become completely comfortable with 25mg. After about a week I started to feel dizzy and tired, and my vision seemed to be somewhat blurred as well, like it was hard to focus my eyes. I also experienced mood swings and lack of motivation which I fought off with regular exercise. I felt normal again after about 1.5 months or so with no noticable symptoms and am now on my second week taking approximately 12.5mg/day. I am experiencing the same symptoms as before, but exercising and keeping busy helps. It is such a tiny dose, but I plan to stay on this one as long as it takes to balance out again before going off completely.

OK so been off the sertraline for about 3 weeks. Was taking 100 mg daily. for about 5 yrs. Did the taper. no problem so I thought. All of a sudden I was feeling dizzy when I would turn my head. Still have this now. Would cry at the simplest stupid c**p. Headaches oh yea in my frontal lobes and at the base of my neck in the middle of the night. Almost like I had a hangover. In the morning they would be gone. More sensitive oh yea!!. nauseous oh yea. Even had to take anti nausea. Just threw up and feel nauseous a lot!! Almost thought about restarting but no I don't want to. So I'm going to give this some time. It is not fun by no means. Maybe my taper could of been longer I don't know. I think when I keep myself busy I feel better. But the reason I started was due to not only my mother being sick but also my job environment. Unfortunately my mother has passed since
but I'm still employed at the same facility.

I don't think a longer taper would have been of any help. I tried to taper as long as possible cutting the pills into halves and even quarters. And still got the brain chills and nausea and headaches. I got through it staying hydrated and starting Crossfit. Dramamine also helped alot

I've been taking 200mg daily since December 1999. My buffon of a PCP [a new one I wanted to be able to walk to my clinic*] wanted to see me when I asked for a refill. I made and never went to 5 appts. By a chance, I began taking less and less zoloft. I decided to stop taking it altogether, because I would like to be drug-free for the first time in many years. I have 150 mg left in case I get slammed by withdrawal symptoms. So far the effects are quite minimal, flashes of irritability and sensitivity, but nothing like suicidal ideation of crushing nihilism.

*an example of his buffonery: Me: "Doctor, I'm experiencing 20% loss of mobility in my left arm." Doctor: "How's your anxiety?" Maybe it's me, but that kind of takes the trust out of a physician.

Also, I GAINED weight when I started taking zoloft. I'll check back in here weekly to let y'all know how I'm doing.

thanks so much for this! i am in my 5th day off completely (I have been tapering for months and was down to only 12.5mg by the end) and i too am in hell. why the 5th day? one last hurrah before the drug is out of the system? the dizzy spells are just insane today. I've never had brain "zaps" that are painful like i've seen described online but i get these dizzy zaps that are so unpleasant and disorienting. thank you for giving me hope that i will be out of the woods soon!

Ugh I've been on 200mg of Zoloft for 3 years and I really really want to stop. I've been having 100 mg for 4 days now and it's just such shitty withdrawl. I wouldn't recommend takin it in the first place if you do any to take it for life just like you said! But at the same time it saved me, I've been happy since taking it after increasing a lol haha. Just don't want to be dependant on it now that I'm in a better place so it sucks. Turns out I still as bad as I use to be when I stop taking it and that upsets me because turns out nothin was fixed

If Wellbutrin cost is a problem, go generic with Bupoprion.

Have been on Zoloft since July of 2003, mostly 50mg, but a few shorter stretches of 100mg. Tapered for about a week and have been off completely for about a week and a half. The dizziness, funky/ hazy brain stalls (more than zaps), and constant crying - joyful or sad- at the drop of a hat are driving me crazy. Oh, and the intermittent nausea. I've had many more vivid dreams, but they're not bothersome and I'm sleeping okay. I just want to feel 100% physically. I'm so close to going back on just to get rid of the withdrawal symptoms. But if somebody can give me a light at the end of the tunnel, a general time frame, I'll hold out, sort of like how you know Morning sickness sucks but will probably lift by 20 weeks or so. Wish more people who've made it to the other side would remember to check back in for an update. I'll try to do that should I make it through the symptoms. Wishing everyone the best.
