Going back to the costs of races...

In New Orleans they have a free summer series which is five or so 2 mile races that are free to everyone. Pretty bare bones races, no shirts, small awards if any (I haven't been to one), only race day registration. Baton Rouge is attempting (I think this is the second year they do it) a summer...

4 weeks for 8k?

I'm dying to do a race....it's been so long. I just checked out my local calendar and the only thing I may be able to do schedule-wise is an 8k that's 4 weeks from today. I've been pretty slack on running lately in the sense of mileage. I'm only doing 2 and 3 miles regularly. But I'm running on...

Races that aren't races

Gotta a couple opportunities next week if I shuffle things I could probably fit into my schedule. One is a "fun run". Totally for charity..$15 entry with no timing, no places, no shirt, just a route and a pat on the back. And the other is a club trail run which is $1, but part of a series out of...

"comfortably" sub 40 for a 10K

One of my goals is to run a sub-40 10K this year. How can I judge from my training times if I'm ready to run sub-40? I made a promise to myself a few years ago that I'd never run a 10K until I knew I could do it in less than 40 minutes. (weird, I know)

How to get back in to running?

Answered by a doctor

Starting out too fast?

Keep in mind, folks, that "genie" and "fast" are relative terms that don't always match well, but..... I have the old sprinters' habit of starting out way too fast and, especially when just coming back from a long layoff like this one, pooping out way before I should. My second mile usually...

Am I screwing myself out of a good 5K time?

I don't really have any 'A' races lined up at this point for a while. What I'd like to do in the meantime is drop my 5K time to a sub 20 level. Here's my current running schedule, every run starts at 5:30 AM:: Monday :: 7 miles recovery Tuesday :: 6.5 miles fartleks Wednesday :: 7 miles...

speed or distance, what is more important?

okay you training geeks...please share your thoughts on at what point a new runner or a person trying to get back in running shape should add speed or distance into their scheme? For sake of argument is there a minimum long run or weekly mileage one should be at before adding speed work? (not...

when to go for a half?

Just curious about different thoughts on when to decide to do a half. I've been toying with it for a while, but feel "maybe" I could actually feel ok training for one sometime soon. My thoughts for when I do it are that I want a very good base before I even train. I'm not the type that would do...

Where is the joy in intervals?

I'm back to doing intervals for the first time in about 6 months. Now I remembered why i stopped. I hate them. It's too bad they work so well for me. How do y'all convince yourselves to do them?
