It's been nine days since my marathon. I have run one time.
I tried scheduling myself for some workouts this weekend. On Saturday I scheduled runs for Sunday and Monday, and a weight training program for today.
Can't pull myself out of bed though. The alarm goes off, and my brain says, You can sleep for another hour if you don't do anything. So I don't.
:sigh: hopefully tomorrow morning I can tear my @$$ out of bed.

I've been having the same problems recently coach. This week is a down week in my training and it makes it that much harder to get up and go running.
Can you switch it up and go running in the evenings instead for a change of pace?

Nah, I can't really. It's really the only time I have. I could do it after 8pm, but then I would be no good for the next morning. It's a viscous circle. Just have to get myslef up, that's all.

I have the same motivation problem, too, especially after a big race. You just want to take a break. That's why next summer I have a few more big races spread out throughout the year, so I can't slack.

I have heard somewhere that you should take one day off for every mile of your race. I have had long runs where afterward it is difficult to regain motivation for a few days. Don't begrudge it just go with it. Your mind and body are letting you know they need a break! You'll feel up to it in no time.

I agree with Frogdoc. Take a couple of extra days to let you body recover. Plan these days as OFF days, that way you won't feel guilty about not running. Try to go for a short evening jog, maybe a couple of miles or a nice walk and stretch afterwards just to help keep things loose. Once you body and mind are rested start up again.

Yeah Coach, you need to take some time off. Maybe not a full 26 days of doing nothing, but a week or two of just relaxing and stretching. Maybe also use this time to write out your goals and plan, even a planned 'comeback date'.

i found that after my first marathon
need to plan another goal right away after some time off and light running
once i planned another goal i was back in it right away
my next marathon was 7 years after my first
and was not nearly as depressed after my second

yeah, I am listening to the advice here. I'm not doing anything until maybe Sunday. That'll be two weeks after the marathon. If I feel good Sunday morning, I'll go out and give it a whirl and see how I feel.
