How should I go about increasing mileage?

hey everyone, I'm new to this forum, and so far it looks great. I really got into running last summer... by the way I'm 14-years-old. I usually run only four miles with a 5:30 pace. I would really like to increase my distance, but keep my speed. I plan on running some 10ks in the future....

What to look for when buying running shoes?

I keep hearing a lot about new balance shoes being the best (or at least up there) Is this true? If so should I go down to the nearest new balance shoe store and have them fit me for my "perfect" shoe? Are there other brands that are good? If so what and where can I look for em? Jonathon

I recently got my motivation back, but now my runs have been suffering. I give up my on myself so easily. I run with a group 3 days out of the week and I do fine with them. When I run on my own, I cant seem to push myself. It's becoming more and more frustrating. Any advice would be appreciated....
