I keep hearing a lot about new balance shoes being the best (or at least up there) Is this true? If so should I go down to the nearest new balance shoe store and have them fit me for my "perfect" shoe? Are there other brands that are good? If so what and where can I look for em?

personally i prefer and i think most runners prefer aasics. they can be a bit pricey ($80+ for the good ones) but i think they are worth it. personally, i recommend the Gel-Cumulus

Anyone recommending a brand for someone else isn't really helping you much, honestly.

I run in Adidas. I tried the 'others' because other runners used them, only to end up back with what worked for ME - adidas.

Now, buying and trying lots of different brands can get quite costly (I have a lot of good lawn mowing shoes now), but the first step is to go to a reputable running shoe store in your area, and let them get you started. They check for things like your gate and arch, among other things. If they are a good store, they won't necessarily push the most expensive on you - they should give you several options that fit your feet.

New Balance may be fine for some, but were uber uncomfy for me. But, then again, I like Adidas, which for some reason seem to be frowned upon by many in the community.

Good luck in your quest. Let us know what you come up with!
