i had an infusion of Remicaid and then 8 days later woke up with hives, itching, excrutiating pain all over my body,a fever, headache, etc. My Dr. told me I had an allergic reaction, and couldn't recieve the drug anymore for my Crohn's disease. What do I do now? My crohn's is in my small intestine, and was very difficult to dx in the first.

Remicaid is immunosuppressant and has big risks. It is relatively new medication that has been started to be used in therapy about 7 years ago. There is no enough information about its effects, especially in long term treatment. Most common side effects that occur due to remicaid are itching and stinging skin, headaches, fever, fatigue, difficulty breathing and chills. It can be very effective in chron’s disease and is probably the best drug ever for that disease, but absolutely not very safe. But none of immunosuppressant is, they belong to group of anti-cancer drugs that sometimes can cause another cancer.

Note also that the Remicade manufacturing process has murine factors associated with it (i.e. mice tissues are utilized), and the overall 13% allergic reaction population is assumed to come from this fact. There is another drug that is almost 1:1 the same as Remicade: Humira.
In fact, the only real major difference is that Humira is manufactured using human tissue factors, making it much more "palatable" to us Crohn's sufferers. It too is an anti-TNF (Tumor Necrosing Factor) drug with some anti-edema effects as well; a very powerful (and expensive) drug that can only be injected.
