I had an epidural steroid injection and I will never do it again. I had it Wednesday. I slept good Wednesday night.
Thursday I was so fatigued it was awful.
Thursday night I had insomnia I had to get out of bet and run in place. The day I am having restlessness, Anxiety through the roof, heart palpitations.
I take meds for anxiety and depression. I think there’s an interaction.
I pray I will feel better very soon. This is messing me up.

Just wanted anyone who’s in the same boat to see my post as all of yours really helped me through my long recovery. So I got a steriod injection for a suspected keloid scar and right after I couldn’t sleep for three nights straight and had panic attacks which I never experienced before , this was all made worse by dr putting me on ativan which I quickly became addicted to because I wasn’t sleeping without it so I had to go through withdrawal and they put me on trazadone another sleeping pill anti depressant to help me sleep anyways thank god the withdrawal is over that happened after just three weeks on the ativan . So I don’t recommend going on any sleeping pills if you can help it I think it made my situation worse anyways fast forward it’s been 9 weeks and I am finally sleeping without any meds I can’t believe the damage the steriod injection did, never again will I get a steroid injection so for those looking for time line , took about 9 weeks for anxiety and insomnia to improve

I had an injection in my lower back. It was my third one and I never experienced this before. The injections helped my back and leg pain a lot. But since having the last one on 24 Feb 2023 Anxiety through the roof. Twinges and vibrations randomly through my body. I thought I was losing my mind one day at work crying for no reason, anxious , dizzy light headed. My coworker had to drive me home. I went to the ER that night thinking I was having a heart attack. I got an EKG and the Doc said it was normal.
I am afraid to drive my car, I feel my heart beating when I lay down. I’ve lost interest in everything, I even feel like I’m speaking slower than normal

I just want it to stop. I pray it doesn’t last for weeks . Finding this thread has helped me because I thought I was literally losing my mind

Hi to all.

Cortisone is a type of steroid hormone that is used to reduce inflammation and swelling in various parts of the body. While cortisone injections can be very effective at reducing pain and inflammation, they can also have side effects, including anxiety.

One reason that anxiety can occur after a cortisone injection is due to the effects that cortisone has on the body's natural stress response. Cortisone is a glucocorticoid hormone, which means that it can affect the release of stress hormones like cortisol. Cortisol is typically released in response to stress, and it can cause feelings of anxiety and nervousness.

In addition, cortisone injections can sometimes cause a temporary increase in blood sugar levels, which can also contribute to feelings of anxiety. High blood sugar levels can cause symptoms like shaking, sweating, and a racing heart, which can be mistaken for anxiety.

It is also possible that the anxiety is not directly caused by the cortisone injection itself, but rather by the underlying condition that is being treated. Conditions like arthritis or chronic pain can be very stressful and can cause anxiety in some people. When these conditions are treated with cortisone injections, the relief of pain and inflammation can temporarily reduce anxiety, but as the effects of the cortisone wear off, the anxiety may return.

If you are experiencing anxiety after a cortisone injection, it is important to talk to your doctor. He/she can evaluate your symptoms and determine if they are related to the injection or another underlying condition, and recommend additional treatments, such as medication or therapy, to help manage your anxiety.

I had two cortisone shots just over a year ago for my painful shoulder. Initially, I felt very minimal symptoms, then several months later, I began to notice that my anxiety level was elevated. Fastforward more than a year and I am still struggling to get past severe anxiety. I have had heart palpitations for many months and panic attacks. Before the shots, I did not have this problem. I know have to take a sedative on a fairly regular basis to keep calm and try to get my life back. My sister had a very similar issue after cortisone shots, but here symptoms were so severe that she nearly had a nervous breakdown. She is finally feeling better after around two years of suffering.
