My 20 years old sister has started with carbamazepime a month ago. She was diagnosed seizure disorder after an attack that affected her. She has to take 200mgs two times a day. She is drowsy all day long and unsteady. It seems to me that therapy has no sense if makes patient sleepy all the time. She is not able to live normally. Is that the point?

These side effects are transient, and last as long as body needs to adjust on the medication. Nausea is not unlikely to occur in this period. But there is no drug that works as mood stabilizer that can be free from side effects. Carbamazepine makes life quality better in persons with seizure disorder, but it takes time for its full effect to be exposed.
It can keep the disease under control, but its side effects sometimes can not be avoided, it depends on individual reaction on therapy.
