Hi guys
my dr put me on celexa today for my depression and initially I was over the moon to be on an antidepressant that appears to have mild side effects. Orignally he had me doing a trial of cymbalta, but with all the horror stories about that drug, there was no way in hell I was going to take it. Another dr had written a script for remeron which I also refused to take.
I have depression, anxiety and anorexia and my eating disorder is what is making medication difficult. I have been reading the posts on here about celexa and weight gain that doesn't shift due to metabolism changes... I'm wondering how true this is? Or if anyone has anything to add to it... Anyone had the opposite effect or found celexa to be relativly weight nuteral?
I am seeing a dietitian currently and I would much rather my weight changes be due to better nutrition rather than a pill.
I guess I am looking for knowledge, personal exprience and reassurace in someway.

I am a 56 year old female health care professional and have been on Celexa 40 mg for about 10 years to treat panic attacks and depression. On the whole, I have never felt so good and at peace with myself, however, the weight gain of about 40 pounds and appetite increase is horrible.
In the middle of the night, I wake up and just crave food..anything to fill my stomach and subsequently will raid the fridge, chips , whatever, until the urge is satisfied. Nothing seems to help the cravings.
After reading the posts here, I realize that I am not alone..even discontinuation of the drug does not appear to help. Apparently, the Celexa permanently changes the hard-wiring in the brain. If anyone has a tried and true solution, please write in and let us know.

I was also put on cipralex two years ago...for stress and anxiety. I would get light headed and have heart palpitations. After seeing a cardiologist, and finding out my heart was fine, the doctor put me on 20 mg of cipralex. I felt good, normal, no anxiety, but after two years and 45 lbs later I was frustrated. It was my sleep apnea doctor that suggested wellbutrin....he told me it was very common for people on SSRI's to have weight gain. For some reason, no matter what diet I tried, I could not lose any weight. I was so frustrated. I have been on wellbutrin for a week now. I have elevated anxiety and a few headaches, and terrible insomnia even with the sleeping pills I take, but the good new is that i have no appetite or cravings. I am giving wellbutrin a few months to see if I can drop some weight. If the anxiety continues, I may have to go back on cipralex, but I'm hoping the wellbutrin will do the trick.
