I was involved in a car accident last September and as a result suffered from whip-lash. Now I am having 3-4 headaches a week and have learned to avoid a lot of the activities I enjoyed before the accident to prevent some headaches. Now my doctor is recommending cortizone injections into the upper part of my neck to see if that helps aleveiate the headaches. I just need more info; will this really work? Possible side effects? Any alternatives?

I had cortisone injections in my upper neck quite a few years ago for migraine headaches (which were every few days and incapacitating). The first 6 months I didn't have a migraine (only small tension headaches) and although I started getting them again later they were not as severe or frequent. I don't recall any side effects.

I got a recommendation for a topic cortisone injection to relieve head pain due to brain tumor and lesions in frontal-temporal lobes, and upper back pain due to several fractures. But only if cortisone is administered in the neck. Is that true?
