Hello.

It sounds like you experienced some significant side effects following your cortisone injection in the L5 and S1 areas of your back. Cortisone shots, which are a type of steroid injection, can indeed have systemic effects on the body, including raising blood sugar (glucose) levels and blood pressure. These reactions can be particularly concerning for individuals with pre-existing conditions like diabetes or hypertension.

The rise in your blood sugar level from 5 to 125 and the increase in blood pressure to 175/92 are notable changes. It's good that you were able to manage your blood sugar with Berberine, a supplement known for its potential to help regulate glucose levels. However, it's always important to monitor and manage these changes under the guidance of a healthcare professional, especially if you have a history of diabetes or high blood pressure.

Your decision to avoid future cortisone shots is understandable given your experience. If you require further treatment for your back issues, it's worth discussing alternative therapies with your healthcare provider. There are various non-steroidal options for managing back pain, including physical therapy, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and other pain management techniques that might be more suitable for you.
