I have recently lost 20 pounds on my epilpsey meds topamax and don't want to gain it back. I just got diagnosed with chronic asthma and I'm taking advair 500/50 2x a day, spiriva 1x a day, ventolin when needed (because it makes me gagg) and singulair 1x a day. Has any one expierienced weight gain? I also just came off of anti botics and predisone uhh... I don't know how you guys do it.

Hi,

I couldn't answer the weight gain on using either of the 2 prescription drugs. However, I would urge you to look into the Buteyko breathing system. You can google for it and you will many articles.
It is relearning to breathe basically but it has been successfully done by many asthmatics who could either reduce their inhalers or do away with them altogether. It's a system developed by a Russian. From what I understand, the Buteyko system is an integral part of the Russian healthcare system.
I have personal experience with it (emphysema), and can't say enough about it, it is fantastic. A friend of mine who was using a Cpap machine to be able to sleep through the night did the 'training' around September last year. He has now been able to do away with his Cpap machine. Another friend has started learning this breathing technique now also, and is also very hopeful to say goodbye to his Cpap machine.

Good luck!

I gained a ton of weight from Spiriva and I'm having a lot of trouble getting of it. All the weight is on the midsection and no place else!

Bill.
