I just read this post, and am sorry someone has not gotten back to you. I would encourage you to get off Effexor before worrying about your mental stability. I don't see how you can determine anything when we know the withdrawal symptoms can be so horrendous.
I am on day 2 going cold turkey. Been sleeping a lot (with vivid, fretful dreams, much sweating), experiencing ear ringing, vertigo, blurry vision on and off, and am seeing that taking fish oil tabs, keeping hydrated, is helping with side effects. But mostly I am giving myself the space to come off this; fortunate that I can take off work. I am taking all these side effects in stride, knowing I can get to the other side and be free from this.

14 year old daughter abruptly stopped taking Effexor by Doctor's orders. She was put on Welbutin ( spelling). Extreme side effects of withdrawal that Dr. was not aware of: dizziness, flu like symptoms, fainting etc. How long will this last? She 's currently an inpatient and has to be taken to ER every time she falls and hits her head. each time she is unconsious until paramedics arrive. Deeply worried!

Hello all, Day 3 and the worst of effexor 37.5xr used for menopause symptoms and situational depression. The situation is over and hot flashes totally stopped. But after the first month being on it,(on for only 3 months) I noticed my hands were so extremely achey at night and in the morning . It slowly increased. I was aching in the day and the arches of my feet started. Dr did a blood check for rheumatoid arthritis. All good. She wanted me to go to a specialist. I said I want off effexor first. Tapered for 9 days. After 2nd day I have Extreme nausau, hot flashes galore, I cant think (and obviously type or get across a clear thought) . Diarea, Headaches, extreme impatience, horrible nightmares and I will cry at the drop of a hat.
I tried pot, I read that would help... Not at all.
I tried laying down. Helps a bit but you cant lay down all day
But I did notice... when I talk about something of interest to me.... the nausa goes away and the headache subsides a little. So, when you cant stand it any more, call a friend or family member you havnt spoken with in a while and catch up. I know you cant talk forever... but it is a nice break. It also helps to talk to someone, not type, who has a experiences with withdrawls of drug... But you don't have to let the cat out of the bag unless you want to. Laughing helps too.
I will increase my omega 3s and start B12. I have been drinkiing lots of water because that is all I can drink. That and eat rice and plain oatmeal.
Please excuse my poor structure, spelling and grammer... my head hurts too much to correct it. I just wanted to add the info about relief by talking. Hope you all heal soon!

I've been on 75 mg for the past year and a half.
two weeks going from 75 to 37.5 mg (rotating every other day)
next two weeks on just 37.5
spent another two weeks cutting the 37.5 pill in half and taking those. - I should mention that the weaning process worked very well for me and i didn't feel any different until i completely stopped.
After more than a month of tapering, I stopped.
Day 1- Felt fine.. a little drowsy, though i had a vivid nightmare and woke up drenched in sweat
Day 2- terrible migraine throughout the day, forgetfulness, inability to concentrate, woke up in a cold sweat again.
Day 3- this is where i am now. This is by far the worst day. I have had two random panic attacks. My breathing is unsteady, I'm forgetting words mid-sentence, brain zaps that feel like my whole head twitches, very anxious, bouts of crying, migraine from morning to night. Though i just read the below comments and I'm going to try to take the omega 3, vitamin b and especially a gravol before bed.
Fingers crossed. I wouldn't wish this upon anyone.

are you still off the effexor? Im walking thru a living hell after tapering down slowly over the past 6 weeks and stopping altogether a week ago, and am wondering if I'll ever be symptom-free.

6 weeks tapering off completely from 300mg of EffexorXR. it's been a week since the final dose. I have frequent brain zaps, feel sudden, uncontrollable anger with occasional thoughts of rage, wonder if I'll ever be okay cognitively again, and live on below poverty level income thus unable to afford natural supplements, therapy, or other natural (read non-western medicine) symptom reducers.
If there is a God i hope It would smite the makers if this horrible pharmaceutical for causing such needless human suffering.

I went off of Effexor 75 mg one week ago cold turkey. I couldn't take it anymore. I went from a size 12 to a size 18 and didn't care??! Then my son was in a car accident and when my husband called to tell me my response was, "Is he hurt, no, oh well...he will learn" What kind of monster did I become???? No tears over my son being in an accident? No care in the world, really??? Right then and there I said NO MORE! I went cold turkey, it was pure HELL, I will not lie. I still have random brain zaps and dizziness but I know with time it will get better. The only reason I went on this medication was because my Mom passed away last Christmas, we talked everyday, we lived 800 miles apart so the phone call was something she waited on. The sadness overwhelmed me, I had to finally delete her phone contact out of my phone because I would dial and forget that she was gone. If anybody is reading this I beg you to "get off of this medication NOW"! If you are sad, talk to someone, volunteer helping someone or something to keep your mind off of your sadness. We all have only one life to live on this earth...let's make the best of it, do not be a slave to these horrible drugs. ((HUGS))

I am on day 7 of withdrawal from Effexor. This has been the longest week. Nausea, brain zaps, crying. I have taken the fish oil, Dramamine, B12, selenium. What I haven't taken is the Benadryl. I will take that too.
I'm really thankful that I work from home-the look of withdrawal is frightening!!
I want to thank everyone for posting their symptoms and remedies. Honestly I wouldn't have made it a week without all the suggestions for treatment.
1week strong!!

Ahhhhh the brain zaps, dizziness, vertigo. Im going off for the 2nd time now. First time i jumped down from 150mg to 75mg then straight to nothing. Bad move. I got through it though. Took about 2 weeks. This time I went from 150mg (for 11yearr) down to 75mg for 3 weeks then I cut the 75mg in 1/2 and still no real withdrawl symptoms. I took about 48 hours after I took the last 1/2 of 75mg and all the withdrawl symptoms rolled in!!!! But I'm getting thru it. I feel drunk and I swear I'm hallucinating while I'm sleeping. It's hard to wake up too. But I still have the zaps, dizziness, vertigo, fogginess, crazy ass dreams, buzzing ears. Last time it took about 2 weeks to feel normal afain. This time I'm feeling better sooner. Oh FYI its very hard to describe the brain zaps to someone who hasn't been thru it. I describe it like someone gently tapping your brain with a little vibrator of some sort ALL DAY
