Thank you for your tips. I know I shouldn't have, but I stopped taking my 75 mgs. 6 days ago. Not too bad just a little dizziness and zaps here and there. I take it for anxiety. It's the second time I've been on it. The weight gain both times sucked! Hoping this will help with my weight loss now. Makes me realize if you get these types of side effects from withdrawal, wth does it do to your brain while on them. Hoping I'll feel much better soon. Good luck to you too!

I am on venlafaxin 150 since 18 months. I became for my first time since few weeks alcoholicer I decided to go to hospital for withdrawal alcohol. When they saw I take venlafaxin they stopped it for me immediately. I'm taking a replacement pills of alcohol. I am not taking any venlafaxin anymore since 4 days. I'm having the same problems u guys went through. But I decided no more alcohol and no more venlafaxin. And I think I can manage it. I'm just relaxing a lot. I'll be released from the hospital tomorrow. And then I am allowed officially to take it again. But I don't think I want. I feel alive again. I have desire for sex much more than before. And i think if I ever faced a problem I would go to my doc immediately without appointment. Or if I have attack i will call the ambulance in worst case. But I don't believe I will reach any of them.
I will update u guys. But I believe it's more from body to body. And from will to will.
Good luck.

Going to start weaning off tonight. So worried. Wish I would have never started this drug. Gain 20 lbs in 8 months! With diet and exercise! Was on vacation 2 weeks ago and I missed 1 dose thought I had the flu. Terrible headache, nausea, lite headed. Just all around awful, that was just one day!

I'm on 225mg Effexor per day ... I have read these posts and reread some ... 4 x days ago I reduced down to 150mg/ day on my doctors advice ... she said if things get tough again go back on it ... First 3 days I had no withdrawal symptoms at all ... Day 4 the earth shook, to coin a phrase ... it was horrendous ... am going to withdraw gradually by removing just one bead for two weeks and keep reducing by one bead every fortnight

You're exactly like me...I'll be off 75mg after losing insurance(and wanting to quit anyways). I read about the Omega 3, I'll grab some of those. Sat will be 14 days for me, still "zapping". What I found helpful were edibles...at least those aren't addicting.

Thank you for sharing - I'll be curious how goes. I was just switched from ven to desven because of all the sweating, but also want to quit entirely and do over time so looking forward to how goes for you.

Thank you to those who have posted here. Your information was very helpful when I was trying to figure out what was happening to me. I was not intentionally trying to stop - just forgot to re-order in time. Saw the doc today for a refil and she suggested trying Dramamine to help with the dizziness until the meds kicked in. Thought I would share in case this helps someone else.

I have been taking Effexor for 6 months. I was on 75mg once a day for 4 months, then my doctor upped it to 150mg. I had crazy sweating episodes. Pouring in sweat. And I was very tired and just visible unhappy. My doctor changed it back to 75 mg and I feel better. Well, I have no taking it for 2 days now and I feel awful. I don't know if I am going to make it through this. I am an alcohoic in recovery and these withdrawals are comparable to alcohol! Complete misery.

I am on no effexor day 9 and am struggling. The spins and nausea are the worst. I just started a new job so cannot miss work. I am taking contrave, which has wellbutrin in it and was suppose to help with the withdrawal. Not really. I had to go to the ER on day 4 as my blood pressure was too high, my heart rate was irratic and I started vomiting. This was on top of the usual vertigo feeling, dizzyness, headache, Today I started the fish oil, B-complex and multi vitamin. Please tell me when I am going to start to feel better. When I hear I could be like this for month to a year I don't think I can handle it.

Sorry its so difficult for you. I hope you will read the following.
Come off effexor Very Slowly.
Get the instant release tablets - 37.5 mg or less. Grind one in a pill grinder and mix with 1 cup water/orange juice. So 1 cup now equals 1 tablet. Start reducing using a medical measuring cup from the pharmacy. Reduce by 1/16 cup of effexor liquid per month. That way there is virtually no withdrawal symptoms except maybe a little insomnia but not much more. Its definitely bearable. Don't reduce any more than once a month and if you have flu or feel unwell then don't reduce that month. This definitely takes patience but its a sure way to get off the drug. The company should be manufacturing a liquid form of effexor to help people get off. Hope this helps.

HI Everyone - thanks so much for all your posts. I am a 49 year old woman, and have been taking Effexor for 2 years now - started with 37.5 mg then grew to 225 mg, and dropped to 150 mg. I have been trying to get off it now. I tried twice, with the help of my doctor - dropped it down to 75 mg first. After 2 weeks, the fatigue, nightmares were bad so I went back on 150 mg again. Then I tried to replace it with Prozac (with my doctor's help), and that was a disaster. I felt the worse ever.
So I went back on 150 mg again. Now it's the third time. I have begun taking the followiing for the past week:
1 Flaxseed oil supplement, 1 Vitamin Bcomplex, 1 chobani protein shake per day (i am a vegetarian).
I have been opening hte 150 mg pill and started with removing 10 beads first - for 2 days, and now have been removing 20 beads for the last 5 days. SO far, my symptoms are headaches, and sinus like feelings.
I am exercising daily - and notice that this really helps.
SO far, I am managing. But I still have a lot of the med in my system.
I am going to reduce the beads even more after Sept 8th. I am going to reduce the amount by 10 beads every two weeks, till I hit zero. And then brace myself for the dreadful experiences everybody is talking about.
I am determined to get off this drug. Wish me luck.

Did you get any positive answers to your question did anyone get off without side effects? If not is continuing using them worse than the withdrawals for our brain/depression/health?
