About 3 months after I began taking Lexapro, I began to notice redness on my shins along with a lot of itching. I am taking "only" 5 mg, which is below the theraputic dosage. When I asked the psychiatrist if the Lexapro could be causing these reactions, he said he did not know of anyone who had this happen. I also have swollen feet and have gained something like 20 pounds since I started this medication. I need to be on it, and cannot wait to go off it. Then, there are the withdrawal symptoms which are supposed to be horrid. And, this is touted as the least bothersome anti-anxiety med.

The whitdrawal syimptoms don't have to be horrid, don't worry about them.i'm off lexapro for already more than a year, and when I stopped taking it only thing i noticed was a dizzy spells which were not that bad. actually they were not bad at all.but you must tapper off.I'm free of hives now for about 7 months.but it stood with me for almost 6 months after i stoppped taking lexapro.and i stopped taking it becuse of the hives, my doctor told me so.with hives i also had occasionaly swallen lips, which was gross.i started taking black cumin oil with honey and i think it helped me with my hives.it's important that you change the way you live , start eating healthy and streghten your immunity. black cumin oil is the only natural antihistaminic, and i recommend it.also you have to be patient , it won't help you immediatly, it takes some months before it's concentrated in your body.

I had an allergic reaction in the form of hives two days after starting a full dose of Prozac (1/4 dose for one week followed by 1/2 dose for one week). It started with large welts on my legs that I thought were mosquito bites and then spread to my torso, arms, and even a swollen eyelid. It took three trips to a dermatologist to figure out it was a drug allergy and now I've been off the Prozac for 10 days and continue to have outbreaks of hives, even while on prednisone and hydroxyzine. My psychologist recommended I switch to Lexapro now that I've stopped taking the Prozac but after reading all these posts I'm really nervous about risking another allergic reaction. I'd like to receive treatment for depression and anxiety but this allergy is so much worse. Just a heads up to everyone that Lexapro isn't the only anti-depressant that can cause a terrible allergic reaction like those described above.

I had a horrible rash/itching all over after being on Lexapro for a few months. It was horrible. I have been off of it for a month and the dermatologist finally got rid of the rash. I am starting Prozac tomorrow for the first time. Holding my breath that I am not allergic.

How did you do on Prozac? Has the rash stopped? I am switching to Prozac from 3 weeks on Lexapro and developing horrible hives. I'm curious how long your rash lasted after stopping Lexapro and how you did on Prozac

In Canada, there is a database to report side effects once the med is ont the market. Doctors, pharmacist and patient can fill out the form, it's called MedEffect, maybe there is something similar in your area.

I have been on Lexapro for 6 mos. The facial/chin rash started about 6 weeks in. Small red patches with blisters. Not painful, but constant. I have tried a
Cortisone cream. That worked for awhile, the another topical prescription steroid cream. That worked for awhile... now 6 months I'm done with Lexapro and the six month chin breakout area. I am going cold turkey,,, more later

I had the very same exact experience - how weird is that! I am really disappointed though since I was starting to feel better emotionally-- The chances are good that I am going back on Celexa ... which is not doing much for me after 5 years of being on it...

I was on it for a year. I stopped a week ago and am still experiencing the rash on my stomach. I switched to Effexor XR, but it's a shame because Lexapro did work very well with my symptoms. I was wondering how you are doing now?
