I KNEW it had to be the Lexapro making me itchy and scratching every little bump till they bleed. I take 5mg and do not want to go off it yet but I am glad to have validation it is not bed bugs or outdoor bug bites. I NEVER had an issue before Lexapro. Jeepers it is an annoying side effect! Thanks for sharing.

I got the circular (ringworm like) rashes after generic prozac a few years ago. Was switched to Lexapro, Didn't get the rashes with that oddly. I stopped taking it a while back though, so who knows if it would have started. I thought maybe it was a filler in the generic version of the prozac, but interesting to see that you had it with Lexapro. Glad I stopped taking it and went to more natural remedies.

I started lexapro in July and in October I started getting bad hives. I didn't think it could possibly be from the lexapro since the hives were a delayed reaction and I was fine for the first 3 months. I got off of it 2 months ago after seeing an allergist which was hell since I stopped cold turkey. I had severe vertigo for 2 weeks straight. I am STILL getting hives and now the allergist suggested it may be from Ativan which I have been taking even longer than the lexapro. Did anyone still get hives for longer than 2 months after stopping the med? How long do the hives take to go away? I still take Allegra daily because I break out in hives every night and they itch beyond belief. I have also tried zoloft, effexor, luvox and wellbutrin since I have been off the lexapro and the dr took me off all of them since the hives never stopped. I am considering just going back on the lexapro since it worked well otherwise and I am continuing to get hives anyway.

In response to my last post I did go back on the Lexapro for 9 days and stopped again. The hives are without a doubt from the lexapro. They became much worse on it and my feet and ankles began to swell up again with hives and I also began to get them on my face and neck again. I am so confused if this is from all the meds I have tried or just the lexapro. I am desperate. How long will this take to go away? I literally cannot take it anymore.

In response to my last post I decided to give Zoloft 1 more shot. It certainly appears that SSRI's in general give me hives. They haven't gone away and I still have gotten daily outbreaks but they have now increased and I am itchy in places I haven't been itchy before like above my ears where my glasses rest and if I lightly scratch my skin it will stay red for a very long period of time. I also gave Wellbutrin a shot last week since it's a totally different class of drugs and it was NOT for me. Its a shame since I did not experience any hives/itching increase while taking it but it caused sick nightmares and exacerbated my OCD. Wondering if I should try 1 more, perhaps an SSRI such as Cymbalta or just give up.

I am trying Cymbalta keeping my fingers crossed and playing that the rash doesn't get worse. It still never fully went away from the zoloft but improved greatly. I still take allergra daily and benedryl at night.

I have been on Lexapro since 2005. I started at a dose of 30 mg (my hubby left me with 2 yr old triplets at home and moved out of state). After about 4 years I titrated my dose down and now have been on 10 mg for about 8 years. It is the only prescription med that I take aside from Zyrtec for my allergies. About a year ago, I started to develop a rash, randomly on my body that itched like crazy. I would be put on Prednisone and the rash would get better, but it was still there and as soon as the prednisone course stopped my rash came back. This has gone on for a year and finally i went in and saw my dermatologist who has taken 2 or 3 biopsies that come back as dermatitis. I have changed my soap, detergent, absolutely everything that could cause a rash. Otherwise, I had been using the same shampoo, detergent, lotion on face, deodorant for years. This past week went in to see my family doctor and run blood tests to make sure it wasn't something systemic. He told me to stop all my meds immediately, even my lexapro. This week my doctor did patch testing on me. OMG, was that awful and itchy. I will find out the results of that later this week but my patches of rash which include my biceps, top of foot, knee and under the knew, groin area, back of my neck and all over my back does seem to be improving. It still itches a bit but appears to be drying up and going away. With this, it makes me believe that it had to have been Lexapro, even after being on it for 12 years. If my patch testing doesn't give us any results, my dermatologist may send me to the Mayo Clinic for more tests. BTW, all my blood work came back as normal but they didn't test for a gluten allergy so my dermatologist may do that tomorrow as well. I honestly can't believe that I could have been on Lexapro for 12 years and then all of a sudden develop a reaction to it.

I was prescribed lexapro and within a week i was super itchy everywhere with hives. I stopped and still about 2 days later its leaving my system and I'm still beyond itchy. This was my first anti depressant I have taken, don't know where to go from here, my doctor doesn't seem very concerned.

I took the cymbalta for a week and was so happy because I seemed to be in the clear. I was wrong. A week later I had hives all over my feet. I also tried 5htp today and am not sure if the hives are still lingering from last week or that made me break out as well. I have absolutely no idea what is going on it is so frustrating and I feel hopeless. I read there's a link between serotonin and hives. This is SUPER rare though to have this reaction with every single SSRI and SNRI. I have tried Lexapro, Zoloft, Effexor, Luvox and Cymbalta and have had the same reaction. And now possibly 5-HTP as well.

I am on my third day of Zoloft and it seems to be working better and so far, no hives. Its weird i feel clear, and don't have any hives so far, but not as clear as i did when i took the Lexapro. We will see how this continues to go.
