Sahara is waaaayyyy short on plot, but regardless it is a fun movie. Don't overanalyze and I guarantee you'll have a good time!
Breathtaking scenery of Africa is the costar in this film.
It made me want to read a Clive Cussler novel. I bet they're just like the movie; all gloss and action and a preposterous story line.

and they're great !!! Dirk Pitt makes James Bond look like a wimp

that being said, yes the action is constant, the concepts & plot great, but realism is kept to a minimum .... and I'm looking forward to seeing the the movie. if I cant find anyone to go with me, may even head to the movie theatre on my own !!!!

Actually Clive Cussler novels are incredible. A bit of preposterousness is of course a requisite, but by and large, a typical Cussler routine is to take a couple historical mysteries and then weave his characters into a treasure hunt to unravel them. Over the years, Clive has taken two years at a time to research and get factually correct the circumstances and elements of the events and places the books take place at.
Even though the movie comes across as Bond'ish and full of craziness, the novels are actually spell-binding and include some really fascinating history and of course, Cussler theories on historical mysteries.
I saw Sahara and being a huge Cussler fan, loved it to bits. I've read pretty much all the Dirk Pitt novels and all the characters have a life of their own in my head. So to see them come alive on the big screen was dang cool. When/if you read the book, there are hundreds of little things the characters do or refer to and background things the average viewer would never pick up on that having read the book makes it pretty cool. And of course, the plot of Sahara the book is to big degree played out differently and makes for a great read. For instance, the time in the desert that Dirk and Al spend trying to get back takes dozens and dozens of pages and days and days for them to do it. It's a great tale.
If you haven't read any Cussler before, I'd highly recommend it!
