I am going to be travelling to Indonesia next year. It is a trip I have saved up for for a long time, and I definitely don't intend to mess with the trip by contracting a highly infectious disease. I heard typhoid is still a problem in Indonesia. I have thought about getting a jab but I heard that has a high incidence of side effects. What are the side effects of typhoid fever itself? What are the chances I would get it?

Your intestines can hemorrhage, you can get encephalitis, intestinal perforation, and other things. It is quite possible you could visit an area where typhoid is present and not be infected. I wouldn't take the risk. Injected vaccines are safe and quite effective. Why not protect yourself when you can? Enjoy your trip!
